Quick answer
The Recycler redistributes gems you already own: it turns Gem of the Forest into Cultist Gems, and Cultist Gems into Scrap. It is not the Grinder that processes ordinary junk, nor a source of materials without consuming inputs.
Requirements
You need a Tier 5 Crafting Bench. Building the Recycler costs 40 Wood, 40 Scrap and one Gem of the Forest; this is the machine's cost, not the bench upgrade.
Steps
- Before crafting, set aside gems reserved for other structures.
- Craft the Recycler blueprint at the Tier 5 bench and place it with room to collect its outputs.
- Choose the conversion you need: a Forest Gem for Cultist Gems, or a Cultist Gem for Scrap.
- Drop one input onto the end of the conveyor. Wait for it to pass through the machine and collect the result near the Recycler.
- Check the output before processing the rest of your reserve.
When it helps
Editorial recommendation: use a specific surplus when you lack the output resource. A gem intended for another machine is no longer available once converted; do not recycle everything simply to clear inventory.
Mistakes and success check
Do not confuse the gem spent on construction with an input already processed. This route covers the two documented conversions; it does not assume the Recycler accepts every item.
Checklist: Tier 5 bench, construction cost set aside, surplus chosen, input consumed and materials collected.
