Quick answer
In 99 Nights in the Forest, junk items must go through camp's Grinder to become Scrap, the resource spent on crafting. A Broken Fan does not mean that its material is already available at the bench.
What to bring
Look for items such as Bolt, Sheet Metal and Broken Fan around the map and structures. Keep sack space and a return route; a loot location does not guarantee an enemy-free approach.
Read the symbols correctly
The community table distinguishes bolt icons from base yield:
| Bolt icons | Listed Scrap |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 3 |
| 3 | 5 |
| 4 | 8 |
A fan with two icons therefore yields 3 Scrap, not two. Treat the table as a reference and confirm the counter change in your session. Do not count the little pictures as individual units.
Convert and check
- Choose a recipe and note how much Scrap you still need.
- Gather junk and return to the Grinder, beside the crafting area.
- Put the item in the Grinder, not the campfire or on the ground beside the bench.
- Check how much available Scrap increased and compare it with your recipe.
- Craft only when its materials and bench requirements are covered.
Decisions and mistakes
Editorial recommendation: when your sack fills, compare item value before adding more low-yield pieces. Do not attempt a dangerous expedition just because another guide lists valuable junk there.
If the increase differs from your expectation, check the processed item and your class effects. Blacksmith can receive extra Scrap through its level 3 perk; this guide establishes no percentage for that bonus.
Success: the item has been converted and the bench counter reflects the available material. Checklist: recipe chosen; sack space; correct Grinder; counter checked; bench requirements covered.
