Quick answer
If your flashlight runs out of battery in 99 Nights in the Forest, you do not need to replace it just because its charge is empty. Move close to the campfire to recharge it. Away from camp, making contact with Fireflies is the other documented option.
Requirements
You need an Old Flashlight or Strong Flashlight, plus access to one of those recharge sources. If you do not have a flashlight yet, the Old Flashlight can be found in chests and watchtowers or obtained from the Pelt Trader. Recharging is not upgrading: you restore energy to the tool you already carry.
Recharging at camp
- Return to the campfire and check that the fire is still burning.
- Move close to the fire with your flashlight available and watch its battery indicator.
- Wait for the charge to rise; simply arriving at camp does not confirm that recharging is finished.
- Before leaving, check that you have charge and the flashlight produces light again.
Finding fireflies away from camp
Move close enough to make contact with the fireflies and check the indicator. Their light is not just decoration: they can replenish your battery. As an editorial recommendation, use those you find along a safe route, but do not extend a dangerous trip assuming another recharge source will be nearby.
Why charge limits differ
The Strong Flashlight has more battery capacity and stronger lighting than the Old Flashlight. The older tool's limit should not be mistaken for failed recharging. Do not plan your return using the same margin you had with a better flashlight.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not confuse light with damage: a flashlight can stun the Deer, but that does not mean it kills it. Do not use having a flashlight as a reason to go farther when you already need to turn back. Editorial recommendation: recharge during a normal camp visit, before an empty battery turns the return into an emergency.
Success check and checklist
The useful signs are a rising battery indicator and restored light; this guide does not set fixed recharge seconds or battery-life minutes. Before leaving, check flashlight, charge, fire and return route. If your campfire depends on stored logs, read how Wood Rain Storage protects wood from rain.
